Baggage hastily dumped into the car’s small boot,
To an anxious wife’s question “The Road Map?”
An indulgent “ Don’t need one, now, do we?”,
For we all knew the oft-taken general road route.
A few smiles, a few waves and good-byes,
Tired heads leaning onto back-rests,
The soft cushioned seats warmly receiving us,
As the chill of the A/C produces relieved sighs.
Our excellent old friend Mr.K from the driving seat
Turns to us with an enquiring look
Upon my pleased and affirmative nod
Starts the car with a smooth purr, not missing a beat.
Petite worries of uncompleted tasks in the work arena,
Qualms from the daily life of a city dweller
Tiny fears of the parent of a smart off-spring
Wash the edges of my mind like waves on a marina.
My eyes looking ahead, ears open to the incessant chatter
Of my excited son and my jovial tolerant spouse
Allowing time for the rhythm of the music to get me
Taking help from earlier meditation classes, a small matter.
Familiar surroundings, settlements pass by in a flurry,
The car plunges onto the busy highway,
All the reservations in my mind slowly sink down
The soothing melody ushering in a happy memory.
Cheerful banter, coffee stops, good music, a comfortable ride,
Across forests, hills and sparsely populated vales,
Upon the entry into an insignificant unpaved off-shoot
Un-explained joy fills the heart as it soars high in a gentle glide.
All thoughts of the Past, Present and Future put to rest,
The mind leaps in bliss to an unuttered tune
In harmony with the living, the dead and Sentient Earth,
How lucky it feels to have arisen and held worthy of the test.
The car stops, we alight beholding the Splendorous Dome,
Moving into the holy Place, observing His serene, seated stature,
Our heads bow, His Grace flows through His outstretched palm,
We have come back to You, where we belong, we are Home !
A blessed pilgrimage...
